From Trees to Bowls presented by the Woodturning School Beginning and Intermediate Students welcome
One of the first things that come to mind when “woodturning” is considered is the image of bowls. Almost everybody loves bowls. Wooden bowls, turned on the lathe, have a warmth and patina unique to themselves.
This intensive workshop will include everything from chain saw basics to finishing a bowl with poly, paint or both. Students will learn the pros and cons of green vs. dry turning; the stance and movement necessary to successful bowl turning; how to hold blanks; the techniques of “facing” and “rounding up” bowl blanks; good forms and shapes; and safety procedures for out of balance blanks.
Each student will produce at least three bowls: a small green bowl; a larger cherry, maple or mahogany bowl; and perhaps most exciting, a 3rd bowl with a milk paint or poly finish.
The cost of this class is $260 with a $20 material fee. All tools and supplies provided. Coffee, sodas, and refreshments will be provided. Turning Bowls with Richard Raffan is a strongly recommended text and is available at the Woodturning School for $25. This class is appropriate for beginning and intermediate students.
