Curriculum 01

An understanding of the Woodturning School curriculum might be helpful.

Our Core Courses are taught in sequence.
Intro 1 leads to Intro 2; Intro 2 leads to Bowl 1 and Bowl 1 leads to Bowl 2. These four Core Courses and are sequenced so the student’s skills accumulate and build on one another. New techniques and tools are added to the student’s turning repertoire in an understandable and logical fashion. Each course is a prerequisite for the following course.

curriculum 02All courses are taught from syllabus: a written and illustrated step-by-step outline of what the instructor will present and what we feel a student can learn in the class. Each student is given a copy of the syllabus when the class starts so that they are informed about what skills they will learn. In the four Core Courses the instructors are interchangeable, so that if the scheduled instructor can’t make a class, one of the others will step in and teach that session. And because our student/teacher ratio of 3:1 is so small, students always get a lot of hands-on instruction.

Usually a student will have completed Intro 1 and 2 before becoming eligible for the more advanced courses such as either of the “Box” or “Hollow Turning” courses.

The experienced, hands-on approach is wonderful!

We hope these guidelines serve to help prospective students select the proper starting classes within which they’ll be comfortable; and will have the greatest degree of success in. Appropriate exceptions have been made and will be made with the agreement of our director. It is our belief that you are here to have fun while learning.

Our Four-Week Classes

As a rule, the start of our four-week classes begin during the first week of each month. They run once a week (sessions are three hours long) for four weeks.

Our Two-Day Intensive Classes

The Two-Day Intensive Class is an opportunity for you to acquire the same level of skill in one weekend and are designed for those students who have limited time during the week.

Achievement Program

Once the student has completed Intro 1, the Achievement Program offers the three remaining elements to the Basic Woodturning Program (Intro 2, Bowl 1, and Bowl 2) for a reduced price of $390. This includes all material fees, and represents an overall savings of $60.

Registration and payment for all three courses must be made at one time and student will have up to one year to complete all three courses. Upon completion, a certificate will be awarded that certifies that the holder is eligible to enroll in our more advanced woodturning workshops and other special programs.
