The Woodturning School is pleased to announce Peter Holcombe of Boothbay as our August Woodturner of the Month. Says Director Ken Keoughan, “Peter came in early, studied the syllabus and went right to work. No fuss, no muss. He just quietly and efficiently completed each project.” Ken Shepherd, his Intro 2 instructor, said, "If he needed guidance or had a question, he just asked. Inevitably he was the first in his class to complete each task." "This guy was great!” said instructor Tom Raymond. “We'd show him how to do it and he’d go and do it. Peter is a Vietnam veteran, has a Civil Engineering degree from Worcester Polytechnic, and has put in 30 years as a self-employed carpenter. At one point he made clocks of exotic woods which were sold at retail in Boothbay Harbor. He hopes, in time, to be able to sell woodturnings in galleries and possibly one day on e-Bay. Peter has completed Intro 1 and 2 and is looking forward to taking another class soon. When asked what he likes about the Woodturning School, Peter smiled, "I loved the instructors. Good hands-on training and lots of it." |
