Our students have come from all walks of life and ranged in age from sixteen to ninety. We’ve had a couple of sixteen year-olds turn baseball bats; a young lady from Monhegan took time out from her very busy lobstering career to take our Intro 1 and 2 core courses; and a ninety-year old retired CEO has happily swept up the shavings under his lathe.
One of our Alumni Advisors had to delay the start of her woodturning education because of “The Wedding”; and a retiring pastor who was a guinea pig for our “Girls Night Out” program used woodturning as a metaphor for life in one of her sermons.
The Woodturning School has had hundreds of students take our courses. One third have been women with the remaining two thirds, men (obviously). Fifty-four percent have taken daytime classes, thirty-six percent nighttime programs and ten percent have taken one of our Two – Day Intensive classes or workshops.
We anticipate that a growing proportion of our students will be in the latter category – the Intensives, that is. As we’ve grown and developed a wider range of instruction we’re seeing more of our students coming from out of state.

We’re open to working people, retirees and teens from the age of sixteen years and up. Insurance concerns, however, caution us on youngsters below the age of sixteen.
