The Woodturning School is a friendly and stimulating place to learn the basics of woodturning or improve existing skills. Our instructors are all professional turners for whom woodturning and teaching is a passion.
We’re located in Damariscotta, Maine, a charming village in the midcoast region, and are just an hour and a half up the coast from Portland. We are in our fourth year of instruction.
Our students come from a wide variety of backgrounds and have ranged in age from 16 to 90. A consistent one-third of them have been women. You’ll learn using top quality well maintained equipment (such as Oneway 1640 lathes) in a light and clean building dedicated to teaching woodturning.
When you join us for a class, you can expect to: have a lot of fun; learn the basics of woodturning or improve existing skills; benefit from small classes of six or less; have lots of hands-on help with a student/teacher ratio of three to one; and have ample time to discuss techniques and your specific area of woodturning interest with our staff and your fellow students.
More than half of our students come back for more advanced classes because they like it here. Our instructors all echo the same thought, “I wish I’d learned to turn here”.
